The Shimano Plays 4000A is an electric reel designed for boat fishing at sea, particularly deep-water techniques where strong pulling power and fast rig retrieval are essential. Its robust construction and electric retrieve system make it well suited to demanding conditions, reducing the effort required to lift heavy rigs. The reel features Shimano’s Muteki motor, engineered to deliver high speed and consistent power, making it suitable for targeting cod, tuna, grouper and other large marine species.

The Muteki motor reaches a maximum retrieve speed of 170m/min, allowing rigs to be brought up quickly from depth. The Fire Mach system optimises the spool’s free rotation, enabling lures and rigs to descend quickly to the fishing zone. The HAGANE Body metal frame provides structural rigidity and strength under heavy loads, helping to minimise flex and transfer power efficiently to the gearing. The reel is fitted with Shimano S A-RB bearings featuring side shields that help keep salt and contaminants out, ensuring smooth operation in the marine environment.

The Cross Carbon Drag system, with carbon fibre drag washers, allows line to be released progressively and provides control when fighting powerful fish. The Fine Dot LCD display makes it easy to monitor operating information, while the large-capacity spool accommodates the PE braided lines needed for fishing at considerable depths. The right-hand handle allows for manual retrieval when required.
