Ratterbaits have produced extremely effective baits for catching various predators. When combined with an optimal jig head (usually selecting lighter jig heads is best), Ratterbait soft baits sink slowly through the water column, acting as an irresistible prey for trout. They are accustomed to feeding on larvae in the water column but are also tempted by pellets, and such slow sinking offers a persistent and irresistible flavour.
