The Mepps Comet is a spinner specially designed for fishing small to medium-sized predators such as chub, trout, or perch. The brass swivel positioned between the blade and the body of the spinner allows it to rotate aggressively during retrieval, regardless of speed. The blade has a 45° rotation angle and continuously adapts to the current's resistance, maintaining vibration levels even during very slow retrieves.

The spinner is best recommended for use in running waters where currents are interrupted by rocks. Its blades operate either close to or away from the central axis. The "will o the wisp" action is also an excellent feature in still waters, where it can imitate a wounded fish in its final moments. The general rule is to use smaller sizes to catch smaller fish and larger spinners for bigger fish.
