The Spearhead Ryuki series, created and produced by the renowned Japanese manufacturer Duo International, is already considered a classic among trout anglers. So far, all the important sizes have been released, but recently the 71mm variant was added. Many might wonder why the 71mm version is necessary when the 70mm already exists and the one-millimeter difference doesn’t seem significant. Well, there is a small explanation for this.

Firstly, Duo used the 70mm version as a reference point, but for the 71mm model, they reconfigured the body and internal structure of the lure. Designed primarily for use in rivers, regardless of current strength, the new model has a lowered center of gravity thanks to a trapezoidal design, allowing for longer casts. Thus, the Ryuki 71S is extremely stable in any type of river and easy for the angler to control. The slightly wider body compared to the 70 model makes it even more stable, and the additional 1 gram weight over the 70 variant allows this new model to dive deeper. Heavier weight is crucial, especially in rivers with strong currents, so Duo’s idea is truly commendable. Of course, this lure can also be used for lake fishing.

The manufacturer recommends using the twitching technique, which involves animating the lure with jerky, rhythmic, and repetitive wrist movements. The color palette is initially just right, and details such as 3D eyes, a solid bib, and the overall appearance are other strong points of this Japanese lure. The Ryuki 71S is a sinking lure, equipped with two size 10 trebles, both mounted on size 1.5 split rings. It weighs 10 grams and is currently available in the sinking version, in a range of 12 color combinations, with all products clearly Made in Japan.
