Shimano Aldebaran BFS HGL Baitcasting Reel

The Aldebaran BFS is the most advanced baitcasting reel in Shimano's lineup. It is perfect for all enthusiasts of light lure fishing who like targeting smaller predator species such as trout or perch. Even anglers who have only used spinning reels for finesse fishing until now will immediately appreciate this baitcasting model. A simple pressure on the rod tip will effortlessly cast even the lightest lures. If fishing conditions change or you choose a lure with a different weight, a quick adjustment ensures you always have the brake set perfectly.

Remarkable casting performance is guaranteed by the FTB (Finesse Tune Braking) system. It’s a combination of magnets and centrifugal braking that work smoothly with the extremely lightweight MGL III spool. The addition of the special S3D design and Silent Tune technology further enhances performance. When set to the lowest level, the brake is almost imperceptible. Moreover, the Aldebaran BFS is not limited to outstanding casting performance. Light lure fishing enthusiasts who prefer a fast retrieve will appreciate the 7.8:1 (HGL) or 8.9:1 (XGL) gear ratios, both featuring the Exciting Drag Sound system.

The Hagane Body is made from very rigid aluminum and magnesium. These materials provide impact resistance while eliminating any possible body deformation. The result is high casting performance and a protected interior assembly that safeguards the gear train and internal mechanism. MicroModule technology reduces vibrations within the reel body. This is an incredible step forward by Shimano in design, offering unmatched smoothness without sacrificing reel power or durability. This smooth operation is transmitted directly from the rod to the line, lure, and to the angler’s hand.

CI4 is a material created by fusing carbon and polyamide. The reel’s internal mechanism is thus protected by a “shield” as effective as metal but without the weight penalty. The FTB braking system was specially developed for finesse casting fishing. Normally, the braking system is located on the spool, but the FTB system is positioned beside the spool, resulting in Shimano’s lightest spool ever produced.

Silent Tune is a new Shimano technology. Like any casting reel, the spool rests on bearings. These bearings have special seating in the frame or side plates and are designed with certain tolerances to make bearing replacement easier. While this tolerance is necessary, it allows the bearings to move slightly during casting, causing minor vibrations that dissipate energy from the spool core and reduce casting distance and accuracy. Silent Tune technology was Shimano’s answer to this issue. The Japanese manufacturer’s specialists devised a method to add small springs beneath the bearings to keep them firmly in place, ensuring proper alignment and eliminating any movement or vibration.
